Just a few days before its official debut, the internationally renowned K-pop group, BTS, hinted at an unexpected musical offering for their devoted followers. On a recent Friday, the highly anticipated track, “Come Over,” was finally unveiled. However, to the surprise and eventual clamor of many, this new song was made available solely as a bonus on the premium vinyl pressing of their album, “Arirang,” marking their first full-length album in six years.
Fortunate enthusiasts who obtained the vinyl edition, which was distributed two weeks after the album's initial release, quickly began sharing fragments of the exclusive composition online. The track, characterized by its ethereal quality, opens with the poignant lines in its chorus, “I'm lost, can I come over? I just wanna say I'm sorry.”
Following the emergence of the song, a wave of fan activity surged across social media, with many imploring the group to make the track accessible on digital streaming services. Amidst numerous online petitions and discussions advocating for the song's wider release, one fan expressed their sentiment on X, stating, “I desperately want Come Over on streaming platforms... I can't stop listening to it, even with its unclear sound. It's truly one of my all-time favorites.” Another individual humorously suggested initiating a formal petition, while yet another jestingly claimed to be carrying a portable record player to enjoy the song.
Conversely, some members of the fanbase offered a different viewpoint, urging patience and understanding. One fan, in a post on X, suggested, “To truly grasp why Come Over was featured on an LP rather than widely available on the album or streaming, one must possess a deeper appreciation for the artists. There's a specific reason it's a hidden track, intended to resonate with a select audience.”
According to Billboard, BTS had previously hinted at the song's existence during an April 1st live broadcast on Weverse. The group celebrated the success of “Arirang,” which debuted at the top of the Billboard 200, and their single “Swim” charting prominently, while also teasing a special piece within the project. Suga shared, “A song I produced is nearing its release—it's finally coming, a special track on the LP.” RM further alluded to a live performance, stating, “Those attending the Goyang concert next week might have the chance to hear it.” The album's supporting world tour commenced on April 9th with three performances at Goyang Stadium in South Korea. During the broadcast, the group affirmed the track's exclusivity to the physical deluxe vinyl.
Released on March 20th, “Arirang” achieved unprecedented first-week sales, moving 641,000 units in its initial week. This figure marks the highest sales by a group since Billboard began incorporating streaming data in 2014. Pure album sales alone accounted for 532,000 units, representing the largest pure album sales by a group in over a decade, a feat not seen since One Direction's “Midnight Memories” in 2013.
